My quest for hidden messages in symptoms was initiated by my own puzzling illnesses, spurred on by my father’s renal cancer and Louise Hay’s Heal Your Body book, and given solid academic grounding by the work of Dr. Brian Broom as described in the August 2013 Let Magic Happen newsletter Invisible Symbolic Diseases. I will be exploring these issues in depth in an all day preconference workshop at the Canadian Energy Psychology Conference in Toronto on October 24, 2013 as detailed in the 2 minute video below.

My understanding of the Chinese five elements comes from local acupuncturists Ian Florian, Andy Prescott and Lori Fendell and from Between Heaven and Earth by Beinfield and Korngold, Acupuncture Energetics by Joe Helms and Nourishing Destiny by Lonny Jarrett. Clinical application of these principles is illustrated in my July 2013 Let Magic Happen newsletter Physician Acupuncture at Duke. “How To Swim With Sharks” is a classic parody of surviving the political power plays that are an unfortunate part of any workplace environment. It has particular relevance to Dealing With Skeptics regarding alternative medicine as discussed in the June 2013 Let Magic Happen newsletter. The attack on me by an anatomy professor and an oncologist during a Duke Medical School Curriculum Committee meeting in 1998 is described in this 7 minute video along with the rules about swimming with sharks.

Keeping a dream diary is an essential tool on the healing journey, as it is the most economical method of psychotherapy available. Sometimes there are also valuable clues to physical healing, as described in the May 2013 Let Magic Happen Newsletter, Cancer Dream Diagnosis. There are many dictionaries of dream symbols, but it helps to take a multidimensional approach to interpretation. The most useful model I’ve found is described in Healing Dreams by Marc Ian Barasch. In the 7 minute video below I offer two of my dreams as examples.

The techniques in Anodyne Imagery can be modified for personal use in stressful situations. You can apply them to dental procedures, MRI scans, having blood drawn or other anxiety provoking events. The steps for relaxation breathing, preferred place imagery and symptom management are described below in the 10 minute video. I learned shamanic journeying from radiologist Al Marsh and shamanic practitioner Mary Phyllis Horn who both trained in Core Shamanism with Michael Harner from the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. It is best to learn from a trained shamanic practitioner, but you can get an initial experience on this 10 minute video with me drumming our way into the lower world. Miraculous stories of Medical Intuitive Diagnosis like in the January Let Magic Happen newsletter are more common than you might think, especially with talented intuitives like Caroline Myss. However, everyone has intuitive abilities, and with training, you may also be able to do remote diagnosis. I learned the simple technique below from Winter Robinson which I have subsequently taught to dozens of people in workshops. Before watching the 11 minute video, please find a friend to do the exercise with who can provide you with identifying information for a target patient.

My first experience of finding coins from heaven occurred as a double synchronicity similar to the one in the December Let Magic Happen newsletter. It happened after hearing a Rhine Center talk by Fred Zimmerman where he described all the mysterious pennies he had received from his son who had died years earlier. I excerpted his stories below from Chapter 8 of Let Magic Happen: Adventures in Healing with a Holistic Radiologist, which includes many examples of after-death communication. My coin stories are in this accompanying 8 minute video.

Cancer can be used as an example of a symbolic disease where blocked emotions may play a causative role along with other factors such as genetics and environmental toxins as described in the November Let Magic Happen newsletter, Symptoms as Metaphors. Similar mind-body-spirit connections can also be found with other more minor symptoms such as musculoskeletal pain, hemorrhoids, and postnasal drip. Examples from my own life are explored in this 8 minute video and listed below with symbolic causes from Louise Hay’s Heal Your Body book:
